Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from almonds. Like all AHAs, mandelic acid functions to improve the skin’s appearance via exfoliation. Mandelic acid has a higher molecular weight than glycolic acid (the best-known AHA) so it penetrates more slowly and is gentler on the skin making it ideal for those with sensitive skin.
